Dallas- headquartered SOUTHLAND CORP., the operator or the franchiser of more than 5,600 7-Eleven stores in North America and roughly 18,500 in total, now is 7-ELEVEN, INC. That would not be news except for the fact that since 1991, the company has been majority-owned by SEVEN-ELEVEN JAPAN CO., LTD. and another affiliate of supermarket operator ITO-YOKADO CO., LTD.
