JEI WEB SITE TO BECOME PUBLIC RESOURCE
--- by Jon Choy

The Japan Economic Institute will retain its presence on the World Wide Web after its real-world existence effectively ends September 29, 2000. The Web site address will remain the same as it is now:

http://www.jei.org

JEI staff e-mail addresses also will continue to be viable. Messages sent to "whomever@jei.org" will be automatically forwarded to the appropriate person.

Most importantly, the on-line archive of full-text copies of JEI Report and Japan-U.S. Business Report will become a public resource accessible to anyone via the Internet. Issues of both publications will be available in HTML and PDF formats from 1996 to the present. I plan to continue to add back issues in my free time, but the process will be slow since reports before 1994 will have to be scanned in. The "new" JEI Web site will be more streamlined &emdash; in other words, it should take you fewer clicks to find what you are looking for.

Please note that there may be a period when the site's search engine is inoperative because JEI is switching to a new Internet hosting service. The host migration hopefully will take place over the September 30-October 1 period, but it may take a few more days to work the kinks out of the new search engine.

I will continue to act as the JEI Webmeister for the time being. I welcome your suggestions on how to improve the site. Please e-mail them to me at jchoy@jei.org.

This is the final issue of JEI Report.

for their loyalty and support over theyears.
